Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can be thought of as the therapeutic use of essential oils to improve the health and balance of the skin, body, mind and the soul.  It’s easy to incorporate essential oils into your daily routine.  For instance, I have a blend of oils that I like to put on my hair, top with a baseball cap and take a nice long walk.  The oils bring pleasant smells that waft on the breeze and add pleasure to the experience of being outdoors.  Then when I get back home and shower the oils from my hair, my hair has a wonderful texture that lasts for several days.

I also experiment with ways to diffuse scent.  I put a few drops of my favorite oil on a cotton handkerchief and enjoy the scent throughout the day.  I also like to use natural stone bracelets and necklaces.  I use the type of natural stone that appears to have been sandblasted because the stone does not have a shiny surface.  I just spritz a couple drops of essential oil onto the bracelet then roll it between the palms of my hands to distribute the oil on the stones.  Then I put the bracelet on my wrist.  This creates a pleasant scent as I move my arm throughout the day.

Essential oils can also be used to scent your laundry.  I like to put a few drops of essential oil on wool dryer balls, toss them into the dryer with my clothes and enjoy the scent not only on the laundry, but in the laundry room while the clothes are drying.

Finally, I like to mix a few drops of my favorite essential oils with alcohol in a small spray bottle to keep handy as a quick disinfectant in the bathroom or kitchen area.

Although the Egyptians are said to be the first true aromatherapists, we still have an open door for finding new ways to bring the beneficial influence of aromatherapy into our lives.  The only limitation is your imagination.
